Head of Creativity and Digital Media (School Specialism): Ms S. Davidson

Mulberry was designated a Specialist Arts College in September 2006, recognising the school’s excellence in the Performing Arts and our commitment to developing the confidence and capacity for personal expression of all our pupils.

By promoting creativity across our curriculum we will help students engage fully in their learning and develop their skills in all aspects of communication: oral, written and technological. Through a variety of initiatives pupils will also be encouraged to extend their ability to apply critical thinking skills, equipping them for the challenges of a fast changing world.

We have outstanding facilities including fully resourced Music rooms, a Music technology suite, Drama and performance spaces with full blackout, light and sound facilities, specialist Art facilities and a professional standard Dance studio. In addition we have fully equipped Media and Film facilities and a fully resourced suite of English rooms.

We provide free instrumental taster lessons for all pupils in Year 7 and ensemble groups for years 8 – 13.Regular theatre visits are organised as are visits to music and dance events and art galleries. There is a very successful annual cross curricular Arts project for all year nine pupils to which parents and friends are invited.

All pupils in year 10 are able to choose from a wide range of Arts options at GCSE level and also will be able to specialise in arts subjects at post 16 levels. In order to enhance their learning in the Arts, English and Media all pupils will have the opportunity to work alongside professional artists. Pupils are encouraged to develop their own interests in chosen arts fields, including the technical and business side of media, the arts and publishing.

Mulberry offers a wide variety of activities as part of our extensive out of school hours provision which includes clubs for drama, art, media, debate, journalism and public speaking.
