Pupil Voice and Leadership
We pride ourselves on our provision for pupil voice. Many of our programmes target confidence and leadership, to ensure that in later life our students are prepared, resilient and adaptable. Below, you can read about some of our voice and leadership opportunities given to students.
Mulberry Youth Conference
Our award-winning annual conference brings Sixth Form students together from a range of backgrounds to explore issues of common concern, including equality, social justice and cultural identity, showing that young people have the power to make a difference in their communities and on the world stage. It was launched in 2002 by a group of students concerned about growing divisions around the world following the September 11th attacks. The conference has since gained a reputation for its challenging discussion and powerful speakers.
Now in it’s 24th year, Mulberry School for Girls Youth Conference brings Sixth Form students together from a range of backgrounds to explore issues such as: equality, social justice and cultural identity, showing that young people have the power to make a difference in their communities and on the world stage. The conference was entirely planned by a dedicated team of Year 12 students who met regularly, to plan and organise the event. The meetings enabled students to develop their knowledge and ideas and to pinpoint the most pressing intersectional inequalities in today’s society.
This year’s theme, chosen by students on our planning committee, was Opposing Injustice: Amplifying All Voices. Speakers and students from schools across the UK came together to discuss how they can become active agents of change in their communities and use their voices to confront injustice. Students were given the opportunity to take the floor to share their points of view on the topics raised and also had the chance to engage with one another in student-led discussion groups and workshops provided by inspirational activists and artists. Our world vitally needs their youthful leadership, creativity, and compassion.
